Cogitus OS Limited is a technology company in Nairobi. We build and run software for the people keeping Kenyan businesses, colleges and creative careers moving.
The name
Cogitus, from cogitate: to think a thing through.
Cogitus was our first product: a college-management platform, currently in use at Trinity Pastors College (TPC). Its name derives from cogitate.
Cogitus OS Limited is the company. Cogitus is one of our products, alongside Arche HR, Bohari IMS, Arbor, Vuka OS and Lignea. Each has its own identity and purpose.
Where it started
He had been on both sides of the missing form.
Working in hospitality, our founder saw paper leave requests get lost while HR managed around 700 employees. Leave and shifts became difficult to track. Compliance documents expired without a reminder. Employees struggled to get visibility into deductions and the performance reviews that could lead to compensation reviews.
He experienced the frustration of chasing an answer and the responsibility of managing the work. That is part of the thinking behind Arche HR: employees able to serve themselves, managers able to oversee, decide and engage. This remains a product direction we are working towards; the full vision is not yet implemented.
The motivation behind Cogitus OS Limited reaches beyond HR. Our founder loves building, learning from the problems around him and finding where technology can make the greatest improvement.

Experience is a starting point. Ask questions, gather information and look for the change that could have the greatest effect on the work.
Be faithful in the work.
Do it properly, to the best of our ability, and keep doing it after the rollout. We operate what we build. Support and steady improvement are part of the job.
Give people room to contribute.
Less busywork should mean more ownership, confidence and creativity. We want employees to see the value of their contribution, and managers to have the oversight to support them.
Keep judgement human.
AI brings greater capability and greater responsibility. Our aim is to help people think critically, question outputs and remain accountable as they use it.

We believe people who have clarity, responsibility and pride in their work can give customers a better experience. Our ambition is for that to support stronger businesses and, over time, contribute to Kenya's economy.
We focus on growing our own products. Where there is a fit, we can discuss adapting them for another business. We also welcome partners who bring industry knowledge, technical collaboration, investment or a way to reach the people these products can help.
